Thanks to RF for looking this one up it isnt the 1843 one as that one is aged 7

St Andrew Netherton John DUNN Netherton Died 27 Oct 1843 Buried 27 Oct 1843 Age 7yrs reg at St Andrew

There is this one
1847
DUNN John Dudley (DUD) Dudley Register Office DUD/017/406
but needs to be aged between 60+-70+ as aged 70 on census

I find it is best not to give them the ref no when ordering via Dudley unless you are certain that the entry is yours
they are normally pretty good and will have a search a few years either side of a death

that 1847 you could say you only want it if such and such a thing and state your criteria but DONT give that ref no
in fact I wouldnt say a year just between 1841 and 1851

No, not yet...we've been recovering from a flood in our main library for the last week so i haven't had time  and i won't be able to from a hotel's open network for the next 4 days...so if you could hold off on archiving this discussion a bit longer i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, Lora

I think the posting on Genes is from Irene if i remember correctly. She now lives in France and did not have any additional information at that point, except that (if i'm remembering correctly) that her third great grandmother died of TB...this is my 3rd gg Keturah's sister.

Well, i spent a few hours yesterday reviewing all of the John Dunn data and doing some new searches on John Dunns in the area around 1841. I still don't feel like we've found our man, but the one above may be the closest (even though not a gardener, the years work out and the odd years for the christening records for the children would explain the lack of christening record for Jesse - looked a couple up on the BMD) and then the John and Sarah (but they don't feel right to me for some reason).

I'm also still not convinced we should eliminate the John Dunn and Lydia Taylor yet.

I'm actually starting to wonder if Jesse's father died young and he was raised elsewhere or his mother remarried...it might explain the lack of a christening record for him.

However, i'm going to order a couple of documents to see what clues we might find. I'll let you know if i get any definitive clues. Much thanks, Lora 8)

Ok, now this is VERY interesting. I just got the data for a John Dunn's birth 4 Jan 1817, parents John and Sarah Dunn, from the BMD. What I noticed though is that the "ceremony was performed by John Dunn", so I looked at the actual document (more points of course  ) and all the birth registrations on the page were registered by John Dunn, Protestant Dissenting Minister. So either this is Jesse (baptised as John) or John and Sarah aren't his right parents. AND, is this John Dunn the father, also the minister?

Do any of your know what the religious climate would have been like in the early 1800's? Jesse was married in what I'm assuming is Church of England (parish church of Kingswinford - records at Holy Trinity Church of Wordsley), but waited to christen his 4 children until 1852 in the Church of England (Kingswinford & St. Mary's Chapelry).

IF his father was a baptist minister, and they were estranged, could he have changed his name? What about listing his father as a gardener on his marriage certificates?

I've found two articles listing Jesse as a prominent member of a local conservative group in the 1870's...where does this fit in?

I'm afraid I don't know enough about the religious and political climate to make any connections here.

Another odd thing is that I have been trying to track down his son Henry. I found one possibility that he had become a Baptist minister with a daughter named Jessie if I remember correctly.

Any thoughts?
