*Archived*-Pub- run by Lucy Tibbetts (nee Williams)

Postby Nemo » Tue Oct 21, 2008 4:11 pm

Hi Peeps,

Loads of my lot had pubs and one was a Black Country Brewer (if Smethwick counts)...........but trying to track down names of pubs is hard - some of the other sites now charge for access...........so building more pubs into this site( or signposting) could be useful along the way

Anyhow, enough diatribe from me - does anyone know the name of the pub which was run by Lucy Williams/Tibbetts at Old Hill/Slack Hillock in 1841/51; Tibbetts was my 9th cousin 4 removed.

Thanks - Nemo

By 1841 John, son of Benjamin TIBBETTS and Nancy BOWATER is dead (he died on 7 Feb 1840 at Waterfall Lane, Rowley Regis, but his wife Lucy (nee WILLIAMS) is a 'maltster' at Old Hill. Her son, Frederick (b. abt 1811) is living with her. Also Living at the same address is Henry WILLIAMS, aged 60 (brother to Lucy?), and Sarah ROBBINSON, aged 25 (female servant).

John's brother, Thomas, is at Gosty Hill and there's no indication that he is involved with inns or beerselling.

In 1851 - Slackhillock, Rowley Regis
Lucy Tibbetts Head Widow 65 Inn Keeper, Maltster and Victualler b. Rowley Regis
Edwin Tibbetts Son 42 Farmer b. Rowley Regis
Jane Raybold Niece 14 Scholar b. Worcs., Cradley
Ann Witeeson Servant 22 General Servant b. Staffs., Wednesbury
John Mason Servant 18 Ag. Labourer b. Worcs., B.... Hill
William Siviter Servant 13 Ag. Labourer b. Rowley Regis

Looks like they are doing quite nicely.

In 1861, Edwin 52 is at Waterfall Lane - looks like 'Crow Inn' (?) with his nephew:
Jeremiah Laister Head 27 Victualler b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Eliza Laister Wife 21 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Elizabeth Laister Daur 1week b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Edwin Tibbetts Uncle 52 Maltster b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
William Bearington Servant 50 b. worcs., Bellboughton
Lucy Budd Servant 46 Nurse b. Worcs., Chaddesley Corbett
Ann Wilkinson Servant 34 b. Staffs., Wednesbury
Edward Cooper Servant 20 birthplace not known
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

It's at the bottom of Waterfall Lane i think on the corner of Halesowen Road.
An old workmate of mine from my building site days used this pub.
He came from Grange Road(old Tory Street).Well known in the Black Country as one of the roughest streets around.Policemen only ventured there in two's!!

I wonder if there's a connection with my Williams'?
Hmmmm
