Best Family Tree Software?

Post by Forester »

Hi

I have been researching my family for over 20 years, mostly using Ancestry and FMP and have built up a huge amount of information. I would now like to create a record of all this work that I can hand on to my children and grandchildren so it is not lost when I die or become even more gaga. I have family trees on Ancestry but access to them depends upon the viewer having a subscription. And I have a lot of information about the lives of my ancestors that goes well beyond births, deaths and marriages that Ancestry Family Trees don't really cater for.

Many years ago I used Legacy (mostly because it was free) just to record such information. But I'd really like something much more accessible such as a website which could be available to all my descendents and relatives.

I'm impressed by the examples shown on the Trinal Pages website. Would something like RootsMagic or Family Tree Maker provide me with files or the basis for publishing a website to share my research?

Be glad to hear some experience from people who have tried these products or found other ways to make their findings available to relatives?

Hi

I use legacy as my offline research software and on a monthly basis, I create a GEDCOM file from it and upload that to tribalpages where other family members can look at the tree and all my ramblings.
