GRO turnaround during Covid-19 crisis

Post by garrypaulbrooks »

Hi
I ordered a birth certificate (PDF) and a marriage certificate (paper) from the GRO on 24th Apr. Estimated despatch date was - and still is - 1st May, work is "in progress"

Has anyone else ordered certificates form the GRO lately? If so, how long have they taken to arrive?

I've just heard form a fellow family history enthusiast that she's been waiting for over 5 weeks for some birth certificate PDFs she ordered from the GRO.

I won't be holding my breath in anticipation.

Today, I finally got he death certificate PDF I ordered on 24th April. Turned out to be a red herring!
Still not received the marriage cert I ordered on the same day. I'm not holding my breath (it still has a "dispatch date" on 1st May)

GRO are dispatching certificates now, but take the "Despatch Date (Est)" with a very large pinch of salt. Expect even a PDF to take 3-4 weeks

Pleased to hear it.
I'll be delighted when marriage certs are available in PDF form too.

... and another one ahead of schedule, today - yes they seem to be working Sundays now - although lockdown 2 will probably kibosh things for a few weeks now.
