I'm a newcomer to this forum but I've already been made to feel very welcome.
I'm researching the family of Thomas Fellows, my ggg grandfather, born in abt 1822 in Sedgley and who may be the son of Jane Fellows (b. abt 1771 Sedgley) and who remained there. The 1841 census shows the family at Sheepcotwall, Sedgley
Jane Fellows age 60 (widow) - Head Thomas Fellows 20, nailer, Hannah Fellows 20 Jane Fellows 2 (Hannah's daughter?) Catherine Fellows 6 months (Hannah's daughter?)
The family moved a few streets away to Pale Piece, Sedgley, by 1851
It looks as if my Thomas could be the brother of Hannah Fellows whose daughter Catherine Fellows might be the Catherine Raybould in another thread. My ggg grandfather had moved to Salop Street, Bilston by 1846, marrying Mary Scott in October of that year. Any information on the 1822 Thomas would be very welcome. The Thomas Fellows in this thread was born in 1815, the son of Edward. My relative Thomas Fellows is shown as being born in 1822 in every census from 1841 onwards until his death in 1890 so it seems as if he is not Edward's son.
Any help will be welcome as I'm unable to find Thomas's father.
Ok if your Thomas is the one that marries a Mary Scott I have the marriage info here...father is a T. Fellows so not Edward So not the one on Bcc with mother Jane...not that family at all.
Yours has father T. Fellows and your Thomas Fellows puts stone mason on certif.
do you have the birth certif of your James Fellows which shows mother as Mary Scott?
is that how you know it is a Mary Scott your Thomas married.?
25 Oct 1846 St Peters Wolverhampton Thomas Fellows full bach Stone mason Bilston T.Fellows Deceased & Mary Scott full spinster x Bilston J.Scott Deceased Banns wit T.Holding & J.Biddulph Jr. perf by Dr.Slade
and just seen Bc wenchs notes thanks barb!!
so the Thomas at Cotwall end marries Mary Short
so yours is deffo another one not of that family and not with sister Hannah.
as I say if yours is the mother Mary scott and you have proof via birth for james that it is a mary scott then father of yours is a T. Fellows deceased by 1846.
Once you have seen this I can split the thread and amend your post and then we can look for yours. just confirm the Mary SCott info/ birth certif james query then we know we have the correct marriage and can search for your T.Fellows and son Thomas. (stone mason)
There were two marriages of Thomas Fellows and Mary Scott. within a week of one another. Here they are:
Name Thomas Fellows Spouse's Name Mary Scott Event Date 25 Oct 1846 Event Place St. Peter, Wolverhampton, Stafford, England Father's Name T. Fellows Spouse's Father's Name J. Scott
Name Thomas Fellows Spouse's Name Mary Scott Event Date 18 Oct 1846 Event Place Wolverhampton, Stafford, England
The census records show that they lived in Salop St, Bilston following their marriage. Children are (Eliza, b. 1849, John E Fellows b. 1854 and my great grandad James, b. 1856)
My records show that it is probable that Mary Scott was the daughter of Samuel Scott and Catherine Tams
I have no details for the second marriage but it's fairly certain that Mary was a Scott. As stated in my PM to you, the Scott name is carried on in my family as a Christian Name.
