Sorry I have been away from here for way to long due to work.
Today I think I have found my Grandfather's attestation form however i have a slight doubt that it is the right form as the number given is different to his regimental number, can anyone tell me if this is usual please?
Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon,
Can you post his details so we can cross reference with other documents etc.
There could be a number of reasons.
Regards
Adrian

Re: attestation Form Number
Hi Simon,
I'm a little confused are you saying you know that this refers to your Thomas:
27263 - Private Thomas Smith - 8th Battalion The Welsh Regiment
on the SWB (Silver War Badge) List and discharged on 16th May 1916.
This one quoted:
No. 11553
Name Thomas Smith
Corps G. I. Infantry
Parish of Birth Horesley Fields
Town of Birth Wolverhampton
age 29 yrs 10 months
Place of attestation Newport
Date 13 August 1914
Place of attestation Newport
The above person was discharged shortly after enlisting under para 392 III of the Kings regulations and never saw service overseas unless of course he re-enlisted later on.
King Regulation 392
(iii) Not being likely to become an efficient soldier
(a) Recruit rejected both by medical officer and approving officer
(b) Recruit passed by medical officer, but rejected by a recruiting
officer stationed away from the headquarters of the recruiting area, or
by approving officer
(c ) Recruit within three months of enlistment considered unfit for service
(cc) Recruits with more than three months service considered unfit for
further military service
(d) Recruit who after having undergone a course of physical training is
recommended by an examining board to be discharged, or in the case
of a mounted corps is unable to ride
(e) Soldier of local battalion abroad considered unlikely to become efficient
(f) Boy, who, on reaching 18 years of age, is considered to be physically
unfit for the ranks

Re: attestation Form Number
Hi Adrian
I was not totally convinced that it was the right paper due to the number difference.
Just given that all the facts on the paper agree with my grandfather I was wondering if it might be, however as my uncle has the original Silver War Badge, it would appear that this is unlikely to be my grandfather unless as you say he re-enlisted later.
Many thanks for your help on this

Re: attestation Form Number
Well after a long time away from family research stuff I have finally confirmed that this is my Grandfather given that I have been able to see other pages in this record and not just the first page.
The name address of the next of kin and the physical description are right.
So it looks as though he did re-enlist at some point.
