Just be careful when....
.... you are looking for a marriage on the free BMD web sites, where it gives you the Church and Ref. No. If one of the couples surnames doesn't appear to be what you were hoping it would be, just cross reference it on the GRO Index which is also known as the FreeBMD web site. I've found a couple of instances where the surname is wrong on the free BMD site, but checking it on FreeBMD/GRO Index it's correct.
