Postby Brani 56 » Fri Oct 25, 2013 12:45 pm

Hi, Is there anyone who can help me, please, with ancestry in Polebrook?
Trying to trace name Butt/Bott, Malpot, Slawson, Smeaton and Gilder.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.
Tony Feist.

I will move this over to general section Tony. This area is just to give advise and not actual help.
You will get more help in that area.

Think you need to let us know what you want re info
ie what do you have already?

no point in us giving info if you already have it.

so where do you want to start?

Thank you for your patience.
It's so easy to ask for too much information at a time.
I think best starting point would be parents of Susannah LEECH who married Samuel BUTT 5 Oct. 1825 @ Polebrook.
Thanks again,
Tony

Once you get to Parish records its very difficult to correctly doccument if you have no other information.
Susannahs marriage may not have her father down, even as a witness. Finding her birth parents will probably be very hard to be certain its the correct one.

It may be worth your while checking from start going back over to make sure what info you have is correct.

The parish records will be held local to the area and you can always try here

Here are Samuel and Susannah's kids, from free reg

4 Baptisms 04 Feb 1827 BUTT William Northamptonshire Polebrook
5 Baptisms 27 Jun 1828 BUTT Sarah Ann Northamptonshire Polebrook
7 Baptisms 15 Aug 1830 BUTT Francis Northamptonshire Polebrook
8 Baptisms 11 Mar 1832 BUTT George Northamptonshire Polebrook
9 Baptisms 11 Apr 1834 BUTT Samuel Northamptonshire Polebrook says father desceased

Perhaps they will help locate the parents in the census, which might give a clue about where Susannah comes from and when she was born?

So this could be Samuel's death?

County Northamptonshire
Place Polebrook
Church All Saints
RegisterNumber 144
BurialDate 23 Nov 1833
Forename Samuel
Surname BUTT
Age 25
Abode Polebrook
Notes Age could be 23
FileNumber 34282

which gives possible birth year of 1808 so this could be Samuel?

County Northamptonshire
Place Polebrook
Church All Saints
RegisterNumber
DateOfBirth 21 Feb 1808
BaptismDate 04 Mar 1808
Forename Saml
Sex M
FatherForename
MotherForename Eliz
FatherSurname
MotherSurname BOTT
Abode
FatherOccupation
Notes Illegitimate
FileNumber 518

except that you have a father William? (Just trying to find out how old Samuel was to see if Susannah was the same age. Susannah is always a tricky name because it can be shortened to Hannah in records).
