Wooden cotton reel and 4 nails

Anyone remember knitting a long woollen tube this way with a cotton reel and 4 nails in one end? I am trying to remember what this is called

Yes it was corking, I bought something similar for my grandaughter a couple of years ago called 'Knitting Nancy' or something like that.

It was in the shape of a doll. The only reason I bought it was cos I couldn't find a wooded cotton reel anywhere :roll:

We used to call it "French Knitting".

You can find something similar in Dunelm - bought some for the kids last year - they loved it

We called it corking, the French knitting we did was knitting without needles, bit like crochet :-)

I remember shaky bottle.I drank some once when playing football over Hurst Green Park.The older lads told me it was cold tea!!
