ARC TBC - Great Grandfather William Thomas John Merritt
My great grandfather was born as William Thomas John Merritt and I have found him on the 1891, 1901 census but he is no where to be seen on the 1911 census. I have tried very single spelling variation of Merritt and different first names like Bill, Billy, Will, Willie, Tom, Tommy and he would have been around the age of 21.
William was born in 1890 in Cowley, Oxford, and he was not with his parents when the 1911 census was taken.
Please can anyone help me find him.

Re: Great Grandfather William Thomas John Merritt
His name might have been crossed out if at the time of the filling in of the census form, the head of the household mistakenly added all of his children and then realised it should only have been the children who spent the previous night in the family home. I have had this happen on a few 1911 census records I have looked at. One, even had children who hadn't lived and were crossed out, either by the head of the house or the enumerator when double checking.
There's no place like home ......

The electoral registers which may be at the archives will tell you names
of people in a particular address in a certain year.
Not sure if the women are included before they got the vote
someone maybe able to answer that one
I have used them at Dudley and Smethwick to see who is living at an address
and it has been very useful
