*Archive?* Clancey: Birmingham to Guernsey and back again

Post by kdp »

Hi all,

Am struggling with this one if anyone can help please...

15 june 1912, John Clancey, 27, bachelor, striker. Fath: John Clancey Deceased, soldier..
marries Priscilla Brettell in Aston Birmingham. Witnesses John and Lily Restall.

In 1911 Lily and John Restall are living in Birmingham, have found marriage and Lily was the grooms sister (Clancey) and she states she was born Guernsey. In 1911 John is living with his mother..Eliza, in Birmingham, same address as on wed cert, he states born Guernsey, She is a widow born Birmingham.

In 1901 Eliza, Lily and John are boarders in Birmingham, Eliza states married born Birmingham. both Lily and John born Guernsey.

in 1891, All the family are together, John age 32, Eliza, 35, Lily, 8. and a William age 6..who I am assuming to be John.
(in 1911 Eliza states 2 children born 2 alive) So is John John or William or John William or William John ??? But on this census they are all down as born Birmingham?

I cant seem to get access to Guernsey births..Nothing on FreeBMD for B'ham
Cant find a marriage for John And Eliza?
Cant see a record of John senior being a soldier? or a death?
Wheres John senior in 01? in 1891 he states occ as Brass Founder.

If any one could help wopuld be most grateful
Thank you

There are no Clancey born in the Channel Isles in the Army birth records after 1869.

Thanks Mark.
The 48 year old one fits perfectly. Apart from the Cardiff connection? (age and Eliza declaring herself widow in 1911)
Apologies, know nothing about war records :?
How would I connect any of these records to them being the one I'm looking for??

I have dismissed the Army deaths. One was too young and the other was African.

The only thing you can do with a death record is order it and see if it fits.

TH Army records take a bit of sifting through.

There is a Clancy family who live in Guernsey and appear throughout the census.

Thank you for looking Mark.
I cant find a death that fits other than one in West Brom.
I cant find him 1901.
Not sure where John Clancey senior was born, Cant find his marriage to Eliza, she states in all census born Birmingham tho all we have for him is 1891 where he states Birmingham altho that poss wrong as the children are stated Birmingham (only in 91). So I'm well and truly confuddled on this one :? ....
