Is that surname supposed to be Harris? There's nothing like it on the IGI. Do you have any Census entries for Wm? If so could you please post the details which will help anyone making a search.

yes thats him thanks but in the 1861 cencus he lists his birth as balk and i have a marriage certficate where his fathers name is william also an ag.labourer. but he confuses things by putting a different birth on some cencuse but balk is where the evidence pointed

Places of birth on census's can vary, do you know which Balk it is as there seems to be several in Yorkshire?
I've looked for a 1881 census, but I can't find anything that matches up!

That's confussing as to where William was born - three census, three differnt places! Looks as though it's the same wife as in 1871.
I can't find anything for 1851.

Perhaps Wm was born on a Bulk Carrier off the Yorkshire Coast

There doesn't appear to be anything for Wm pre 1837 on line, your best bet is to contact Yorkshire Archives, and ask for a Parish Register search. It's a very unusual name so that's a good starting point. Linell.
