I have some good news, well for me it is

I have found my Great, great grandfather, I have received my great grandfathers (George Henry) marriage certificate and also his birth certificate and the fathers name is a match.

So now I'm on the search for the marriage certificate of my Great great grandparents :

John Henry Goodin, on the marriage cert his profession is down as a minor and he is married to Susannah Goodin formerly Harvey.

I have been looking on the web but I'm not getting anywhere fast. Any help would be appreciated

Shaz x :P

Here you go Shaz

Married in 1875.

HARVEY Susanna GOODING John H Blackheath, St Paul Dudley Register Office 012/001/244

If you want a copy of this certificate, it is at Dudley Register Office.

I'm not sure where Blackheath Registers are archived, but no doubt someone on here will tell you.

That surname was spelt in lots of different ways, no wonder you're having trouble finding them. Always use the soundex, I've found that it helps no end.

Now I'm confused, if our name didn't change until my great grandfather's era, how is this spelling "Goodwin" not "Goodin" or "Gooding" as previously posted.

The address above is correct 20 Oldbury Road, and on George Henry Goodin's birth certificate his occupation matches also, Labourer at a brewery.

It just dosn't fit that the name if Goodwin here?? Do I make sense, probably not!!!

ps. A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL THE INFORMATION xx
Can any shed any light!!

Hi Shaz
You need to take the spellings with a pinch of salt, as most people couldn't read or write they didn't know if the registrars were spelling their names correctly or not. And the registrars wrote what they heard, Goodin, Goodwin, Gooding can all sound the same depending on your accent. - Especially a Black Country Accent

Well here I go again!!

I have found another great grandfather, and yet again his name is George.

He is on John Goodin's marriage certificate to Susanna Harvey, they were married December 25th 1875.

So now I'm on the look for:

George Gooding (again another name change), from Mincing Lane, Rowley Regis and his occupation was a Carpenter. One of the witnesses is a Mary Gooding (maybe George's wife, John's mother??).

Have looked on WMBMD but can't find anything for Gooding or Goodin.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated again!!
