1921 Cheshire?

Postby records_seeker » Sun Mar 06, 2022 8:58 pm

Could some please look up John Peder Mork (born 7 May 1870 in Namsos) if he featured in the 1921 census?

I'm new to geneology so feeling a bit daunted by all the sources and information available. I do know John features as "John Mork" in the 1911 census, in the Poulton cum Seacombe Liscard civil parish. He's married with Catherine E Mork (born 1868 or 1870, nee McGrath, first married Carr in 1896) and that they had two children: Harold aged 5 and John aged 3.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

Wow, thank you so much. So intriguing, so many questions.
Can I find this information by subscribing to FindMyPast?
I don't mind paying for information, just don't know where to jump in..

-- Edit --

Sorry, these are questions for the General Geneology fourm (viewforum.php?f=1), aren't they?

You do have to subscribe to Find My Past to view their web site. It all depends on what type of subscription you want. If you go here before you register

https://www.findmypast.co.uk

Scroll down to the bottom, on the left hand side under "Find your past" and click on "Take a subscription"

If you just want to view the 1921 census

https://www.findmypast.co.uk/help/artic ... us-online-

says you can view records on a pay-per-view basis using FMP micropayments. If you go this way, I would pay for the original image rather than the transcript.

Personally, I subscribe to the Pro subscription and still have to pay for the 1921 census but at a 10% discount.

Thank you for the detailed information.

My approach may seem back to front, but having discussed the news with my mum, we're interested in finding any (possibly) living relatives. Between Ancestry (through the local library) and your kind information, implies John and Catherine never had any grandchildren. Or is that because of privacy rules preventing people from finding living relatives?

I'm guessing I should be looking at birth registries to find any children of either Harold (unlikely, as he died in his teens) or John? Or would the 1939 Register be conclusive in that John (B. 1907) had no children?

I have searched FreeBMD https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl but couldn't find a marriage for John Mork (1907). These BMD's aren't complete yet.

I did find this on the Electoral Registers which could be John Mork (1907). If he had been married, his wife's name should appear in the household as well.

1959 Liverpool Electoral Registers
Polling District No. 138 FN. Princes Park
109 Park Road
Pettersen, Lilian
Pettersen, Clifford
Carrol, Denis
Mork, John

I was wondering if the Pettersen surname is connected either as a family member or, did Rolf Pettersen and John Mork (1907) serve together on various ships.

Lilian Pettersen nee Duffy appears on various Electoral Registers, but this one she's living with her husband Rolf H Pettersen.

1961: 142 Halewood Road
Duffy, Mary Alice
Pettersen, Rolf H
Pettersen, Lilian

They marry

Marriage: 1944 Liverpool, Lancs
Rolf H Pettersen & Lilian Duffy

This is Lilian Duffy before her marriage to Rolf Pettersen:-

1939 Register: 32 Quarry Street, Liverpool
John Duffy, 14 Apr 1876, Scrap Metal Merchant, Married
Mary A Duffy, 5 Oct 1880, Unpaid Domestic Duties, Married
Lilian Duffy (she married a (?) Petterson), 12 May 1919, Hooper Hosiery Worker, Single

This is the burial of John Mork (1907)

BURIAL
Name: John Mork
Age: Adult
Record Type: Burial
Death Date: abt 1987
Burial Date: 16 Sep 1987
Burial Place: Merseyside, England
Cemetery: Everton Cemetery
Cemetery Section: Church of England

To me, it looks as though John Mork (1907) didn't marry.

This is Catherine Ellen Mork's Will

WILL:
Catherine Ellen Mork of 12 Bridle-avenue Seacombe Wallasey Cheshire widow died 10 October 1948 at 56 Church-road Birkenhead Probate Liverpool 3 November to Albert Edward Orm chief storekeeper. Effects £69 9s. 10d.

The Pettersen/Duffy surnames may have nothing to do with your Mork family, but thought I would just "throw it in the pile" of information.

Thank you so much for the additional information. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, had to visit mum as she was feeling poorly. However, she was as intrigued as I was by the additional information.

If the records are not yet complete, how would I go about finding (any) outstanding information? Searching the local church records maybe?

Sorry for the late reply and hope your Mom is feeling better.

We already have the death of John Mork (b 1907)

Death of their son John
First name(s) John
Last name Mork
Gender Male
Birth day 3
Birth month 11
Birth year 1907
Age -
Death quarter 3
Registration Month 9
Death year 1987
District Liverpool
Register number 987
County Lancashire
Volume 36

Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
Subcategory Civil Deaths & Burials
Collections from Great Britain, England

So it may be an idea to get his death certificate which will state the Informant and hopefully this will be a family member.

This is his burial:-

BURIAL
Name: John Mork
Age: Adult
Record Type: Burial
Death Date: abt 1987
Burial Date: 16 Sep 1987
Burial Place: Merseyside, England
Cemetery: Everton Cemetery
Cemetery Section: Church of England

You could contact Everton Cemetery

https://liverpool.gov.uk/births-marriag ... -cemetery/

to find out if there is a headstone.

Looking again on FreeBMD it looks as though the Marriages are pretty well covered.

Other than the above suggestions, I can't think of anything else, sorry.
