Deciphering census record

Postby garrypaulbrooks » Sun Nov 08, 2020 2:28 pm

Hi

Can anyone decipher the occupation and "where born" on the attached?

The "occupation" looks like "primer" but I guess it might be "printer"

Thanks!

I'd go with 'primer' for the occupation - if it were 'printer' I think the 't' would be more noticeable.

For the birthplace, 'Midx' is probably an abbreviation of Middlesex, especially considering the ditto on the entry below before St Martins. For the second part, I'm tempted to say perhaps 'Shoe Lane, City of L' meaning City of London?

If you need more help it would be best to give more details ? Census date and name of people - it would give researchers more to go at Kind Regards RF

I agree with this. The next person down in the census is a printer-compositor so primer may well refer to a step in the printing process
