No sniggering from the back!

I have a relation, female, single in 1939, aged 22. On the 1939 Register her occupation is shown in capital letters as STRIPPER with the usual added note Heavy Worker. Four years later, into the 2WW on her marriage certificate her occupation is now "Engineers Fitter". Anyone know what type of work a Stripper did. It was in Nottingham if that helps.

Just showed my hubby your message as he used to be in engineering. As he said, Nottingham was well known for the Lace trade. So we go to thinking, did your relation take the sheets of lace off the looms aka "Stripper" then on her occupation on her marriage certificate, work on the looms and classed as an "Engineers Fitter" as this would have been during WW2 with men being in the forces???

sorry for my much delayed reply, many distractions and the xmas season is my very poor excuse.
Thanks for the alternate suggestion, it does make very good sense....and I'm certainly "thinking about it"
