ARC TBC - Help needed with names,TAYLOR and WILSON

Postby Taylor » Tue May 17, 2011 9:54 pm

Hit a very solid brick wall in my family tree.
Heres the info i have so far... if anyone could help id be really grateful!! :)

Thomas Taylor, Born 1886. Links to Preston, Lancashire. Fathers name John Taylor. No name for Mother...???
He was married to a Lilian Wilkinson (maiden name wareing) . They had a son called, Alan Lloyd Taylor, born Nov 1925.

If anyone can help with Details on Thomas and his parents so i can carry the tree on that would be fab!! :)

Also hit a brick wall on another part of my tree.

Im struggling to find any info on my gt grandad Williams parents.
Info ive collected so far... William Wilson, born Jun 1901. Lancashire. Fathers name was Henry Wilson. No other details... mothers name was Margaret Ellen Wilson, maiden name seddon. I think they could have married in 1893, this isnt fact though.

William married Edna May Ravenscroft in 1932.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Taylor.

His only link to Lancashire is the wedding?

It is a fairly common combination, Thomas Taylor with father John.

Is birth year of 1886 derived from the marriage cert?

What was Thomas' profession? His father's professions?

Was his father still alive when he wed?

Was he a batchelor when he wed?

We can help you but we need a few more clues than what you have provided.

Hi, Thankyou for your reply.
I dont have much info on Thomas, my grandad was the only one with any info and he sadly passed away Dec last year.
The only other info i do have is, that Thomas died in 1946, In preston. He served in two world wars... at sea too, so could have been in the marines of some sort. He worked with radios and wireless. This is info ive collected is from what my nana can remember and an old newspaper cutting. If i can post the cutting, maybe you could get more info from it then i can.....
Thomas's fathers profession was 'farmer', and his name was taken from Thomas and Lilians marriage certificate.
Thomas is buried, at St James church, Leyland....along with Lilian and Alan.

Thats all i have, hope something here might be able to help.

The wilson info looks right, i know henry was wheelright of copull moor.... so spot on there. Il try and narrow Margarets birth records down to find the right one... Thankyou again this info should be a big help! :)

Taylor.

So far I have found 59 John Taylor who happen to be farmers in Lancashire in 1881......

That drops to 48 by 1891.....

P.S. Do you have any idea how much an original Logie Baird TV would be worth to a collector!!!!!!!

There is no suitable death for a Thomas Taylor in Preston in 1946.

However, he lived in Leyland and the registration district would be Chorley.

That would mean his likely death entry is this...

Name: Thomas Taylor
Birth Date: abt 1886
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1946
Age at Death: 60
Registration district: Chorley
Registration County: Lancashire
Volume: 10c
Page: 12

Do you have his death cert?

There are no other John Taylor farmers with a son called Thoimas in Lancashire so it appears one of those two are his family.

One uses very common names whilst the other has some rarer ones.

Any of the rare names ring a bell such a Rebecca, Minnetta, Helena?

Both of those look promising.... especially the 1st one.... Thomas's date of birth is the same ,1886 on that one. Will try searching both families, see if i can match them up with my thomas...

None of the rare names ring a bell to be honest.... ive done nothing but trawl through name after name the last few days whilst doing this tree, so my minds one big jumble of names at the mo!!lol :)

Hello Taylor,

You should try this absolutely brilliant Lancashire Online Parish Clerks web site. When the home page comes up, on the left hand side click on "search" Next page you can click on the whole county. It's obviously a work in progress. I've found lots of my Lancashire rellies on there and information on gravestones.

I've just had a quick look and there's info on your William Wilson. Have fun.
