My interest in one of my brickwalls has recently been revived by a thread on this forum so here are the details:
My 2x Great Grandfather, Joseph Daw, was baptised in Curdworth on 6 March 1814 to Samuel & Jane Daw, Plant's Brook Forge. (Curdworth PR)
Plant's Brook Forge was at Walmley Ash, Sutton Coldfield and was out of use by 1859, being converted to reservoirs and filter beds for public water supply. This has now been abandoned and the site is a nature reserve.
In various censuses Joseph is described as being from Plowhill, Warks., Planksmoor, Warks., Aston, Warks. and Plants Brook, Wark. He married Sarah Williams at Clent on 3 April 1836. (Clent PR) and he died on 3 August 1882 in Quarry Bank. (death certificate)
The question is - whare did his parents come from?
I have never found a hint of a marriage except one Daw/ Skyrme in Birmingham in 1831. I have never been able to find them on any census except a possible Jane Daws in Brierley Hill in 1851 who is about the right age at 88 years, a widow, but is described as a visitor and from "NK" (very useful !!) However, she is visiting an Elizabeth Bates who is from Bedworth, Warks. so I did wonder at one time whether this was her daughter (but subsequently found Joseph Bates marrying Elizabeth Carpmail in Kegworth so decided not).
I've even looked for a widow Daw marrying again but no luck there either.
And that is it. The sum of all my knowledge on these folks.
So that is the challenge; find Samuel and Jane and knock down my twenty year old wall.
Thanks and good luck. Any help will truly be gratefully received.
