ARC TBC - Search For Albert Janzen

Postby CJansen » Thu Aug 19, 2010 1:44 pm

Dear All,

I am looking to find out who my Great Great Great Grandfather was. I have the following information on him thus far:

Albert Janzen (at sometime we think he changed his surname to a more angloised version - Jansen) came to India from Holland in 1806 according to the Madras Muster Rolls 1813 to 1816. He was in the Q.M.S., 2nd Battn. 9th Reg. N. I. He married a Maria Veza (or Vaza) at Quilon on 3rd February, 1810 (Reference British Library Records - N/2/4/390).

According to FamilySearch.org there is a record of the Death of an Albert Janzen who was buried on 7th Dec 1825 at Vizagaptam, Madras, India (Film Ref: 521839)

I do not know how old he was nor when and where in Holland he was born. I have been advised that there was no East India Company ship sailing from Holland to India. Can anyone please help be to find out more information on him - I would especially like to know his date of birth, place of birth, mother, father. I have come to a complete holt on this one and do not know any other means of tracing him. Please help!!

Hi Craig

We do know that he was born in 1770 in Aalten, Guilderland, Netherlands and he died in 7/12/1825 in Visakapatnam. His first wife was Dinae Kuijpers, he married her in 1802 and had two children. He married Marie Vaza on 3/2/1810 in Quilon, and had three children - John WIlliam Jansen (1811 - 1884), Magdalena Theresa (1812 - 1905) and Albert (1825 - 1876).

John WIlliam Jansen married Virginia Domingo in 1830. His second wife was Louise Horne in 1835 and he then married Henrietta Macaulay on 18/3/1847 in Veperey. John and Henrietta had 11 children, but then you probably know all that.

Have you tried FIBIS. I know it is mainly for British research but their records, especially the military and shipping records, cover all nationalities.
