ARC TBC - Michael McGrath's wifes Maiden name

Postby GarethGrainger » Mon Dec 07, 2009 12:16 pm

Hello everyone,
I came across my Great uncle, Michael McGrath (on my mother's side of the family)
in the 1911 Dublin census over the weekend.
They were living at 14 Henrietta St
Michael McGrath head, age 38 born in India (My great uncle)
Catherine wife, age 38 born City of Dublin
Michael son, age 13 born City of Dublin
William son, age 11 born City of Dublin
Mary dau, age 9 born City of Dublin
Margerite dau, age 7 born City of Dublin
The problem is that I just cannot find any record of Michael and Catherine's marriage,
so have no idea what her maiden name is, although I do know that they were married in Dublin
and that both were Roman Catholics
Also cannot find them on the 1901 census
Any help would be really appreciated

you might be better trying to find a birth cert for one of the kids,
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

I would have to agree that searching for a birth of one of the children would be better.

I have looked on Brs Genealogy which is a pay to view site, but you can do free index searches. I did a search for Marriage records for Michael Mcgrath 1898 +/- 4 years in Co. Dublin and the search returned no matches.

I also looked on familysearch.org which is only a pilot site, and did a marriage search for 1898 +/- 5 years with spouse's first name as Catherine for the whole of Ireland, which also returned no matches.

Have you considered a trip to Dublin to search the records office? I went last month and it was particually helpful. Maybe some of your relatives who are interested could go for you?

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?
