ARC TBC ng my 4gt-grandparents in their home county of Cork

Postby MyComplicatedSurname » Wed Nov 20, 2019 7:14 am

Dennis Mullins and Ellen Howes, both from Cork, were married on September 6th, 1835 in Southwark, London - the census has inconsistent ages for both of them. In 1851, Dennis is 34 and Ellen 32, yet in 1861 Dennis is 42 and Ellen is 47. Dennis was a brick layer, and in 1851 Ellen's much younger brothers Charles and John (born 1834 and 1836, respectively - according to the census) were sawmill workers living with the Mullins family in St. Luke's, Islington. The 1835 marriage is the furthest I have been able to trace my Irish ancestors - I have not been able to get back to Ireland in the four years since I have found my 4x-great-grandparents. A baptism for Dennis may have turned up, but I don't hold much stock in it due to the censuses variation. More evidence has turned up that may be even more sketchy. Is it possible to profile these two and get across the metaphorical sea? I know that basically ALL Irish records were burnt, but this is getting ridiculous. I'd sing from the roof if I could find a Howes or Mullins baptism with sufficient evidence.

Any luck finding the witnesses to the marriage? Jeremiah Mullins and Catherine Mullins. No way of knowing if they are a couple or not :-(

Could this be Ellen in 1881 with her youngest?

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?
