ARC TBC Hannah Manger and Mary Ann Kilbourne

Postby Frodo » Sun Aug 18, 2019 8:20 pm

I have been looking at the Manger family on Ancestry and have found Hannah Manger, my great grandmother's sister in the 1891 census living at Frisby on Wreake with a Mary A Kilbourne who is an aunt under the relationship heading, aged 73 and a widow. I think this is Mary Ann Round born 1844 but have not been able to to find any more details. Does anyone have any information about Mary Ann Round that would confirm her marriage/move to Frisby which is near Melton Mowbray.

Hi, I can't see a link between Hannah and Mary

Not sure if Mary Ann was a Round, according to the 1891 census she was born about 1818.
In 1881 she is with Thomas Kilbourn in Leicestershire.

Thanks.I picked on Mary Ann Round because of the first name. I wonder if it is a step cousin as David Manger married Mary Ann Smith(nee Peplow) after his first wife Hannah Round died so she could be a Round, Manger Smith or Peplow and I don't have any firm information on that part of the family.

Looking more closely at the ages and dates I am wondering whether this is a great aunt as she is older than Hannah's father David Manger. As often happens I have also noticed more than one spelling of Kilbourne. Hannah Manger's grandfather Thomas was born in Leicestershire but I have not much information on his family and can't see any obvious connection to either Kilbourne or Marriott.

I still haven't found a reason for Hannah calling Mary Ann an aunt in the census but her grandfather Thomas Manger was born in Leicestershire so am assuming it is correct just can't work out what the link is and whether it was via Mary Ann or her husband.
