I have a sort of brick wall which I would be so grateful for help with!
I am tracing my Downing family building on research which a professional did in pre-internet days.
I have checked parish records online and confirmed his results up to the marriage of Isaac Downing (1.1.1741 to 30.3.1828 (sic)) with Mary Barnsley (1752 - 1821) on 20 March 1760. Their children were Sarah, Phoebe, Thomas, Ann and Josiah (my relative).
He recorded Isaac's parents as John and Ann Downing, and that was as far as he got.
I have found family trees in Ancestry.com giving Isaac's dates as 19.8.1739 to 6.11.1814, also married to Mary Barnsley in 1760.
This Isaac's parents on every Tree I can see, were Isaac Downing 1699-1746 and Mary Grainger (or Granger) 1710 - 1762 children Benjamin, Isaac and Anne. Unfortunately I cannot find a date for the birth of this baby Isaac in the parish records but an Isaac, Anne and Benjamin are confirmed. (Plus an earlier marriage with Elizabeth Haden producing a son, Samuel)
My difficulty is that when I check the Parish records for Rowley Regis online, there are 2 possible Isaacs who could have married Mary Barnsley: Isaac Downing baptised on 19.8.1739 - Parents Joseph Downing and Mary
Isaac Downing baptised on 1.1.1740 - Parents John Downing and Anne
These dates differ to the baptism date my uncle's researcher recorded. (mentioned earlier) but the baptism of one of these Isaac's is the same as the Isaac in online trees with Isaac and Mary Grainger as parents).
I can find no parish records for the baptism of Isaac Downing with parents as Isaac Downing and Mary Grainger as in the trees in Ancestry and in Black Country Connections.
I would love to be able to link my ancester Josiah Downing 1778 - 1824 with Isaac Downing and Mary Grainger as his 'grandparents' as both John and Anne Downing and Joseph and Mary Downing don't lead anywhere!
Can anyone help?
Many thanks, Carol
