ARC TBC Irish search

Postby Northstarxxx » Thu Oct 12, 2017 10:59 pm

Can anyone advise as to how I can trace my paternal great grandfathers place of birth. I know his year of birth, his fathers name and the fact that he was Irish? He settled in Manchester on arriving in the U.K.
Any tips would be greatfully appreciated.

Hi there, welcome to the forum!
Perhaps if you can give more details ie ....name/year of birth/and anything else you may have that could help?

The information I have is that my great grandfather James Kelly was born in Ireland in 1852, his father being Lawrence Kelly. At some point James Kelly left Ireland and moved to Manchester, where he married a Catherine McNally in 1880.
I was hoping to find out where in Ireland the family originated.

If you have James' marriage cert does it give his his father's occupation?

Another thought....do you know for definate that James was born in Ireland and not Manchester?

I have James Kelly's marriage certificate but it does not say where he was born, the certificate was registered in Manchester, it just mentions his fathers name but as deceased.

By sheer coincidence, my hubbies Grandfather Patrick Mallon (Engineer) was born in Dundalk in 1868 as was his father also Patrick born in 1831 (Blacksmith)
