There is this but later than 1903...and on 1911 they say 8 years married?

Marriages Mar 1910
BROOM Maria Jane Cardiff 11a 656 Scan available - click to view
JONES George Richard Cardiff 11a 656 Scan available - click to view
Nelson William James Cardiff 11a 656 Scan available - click to view
SMITH Margaret Cardiff 11a 656

you ever thought the final divorce decree might hold something ?

"Contact the court where the divorce, dissolution or annulment took place to get a copy of a decree absolute or final order. It costs £10 if you know the case number. You can pay by: credit or debit card."

or other options

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

SRD wrote:Oh dear, a George Jones marries a Margaret Smith, at least he wasn't John. The 1911 Census also shows married 8 years which helps but is also pretty late, making him 40 and her 26 so it may also be that either had been married before and that Margaret wasn't Smith on the marriage records.

Thanks guys. I found this - maybe if Margaret was married before, she might not be married as Smith?

Sorry Northern Lass - just saw your post about the Jones/Lewis family - so the above must be a different George Jones (who married Margaret Anne Lewis)...

I think this is George (he may have called his son William after his father, William)- baptised 1863 in Bristol (where it says George is from in 1911 census)
Baptism date 21 Jun 1863
Baptism place Hanham Abbots, St George, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
Father William Jones
Mother Sarah Ann Jones

Did you mean Hilda was married in St Paul’s? (My grandmother, Margaret’s (born 1923) 1st and 3rd marriages were in Portsmouth, her 2nd one in Gosport.

Maybe this is him though? The marine connection is there. Perhaps he worked with the head of the household? Perhaps the head’s wife, Ann was a connection from Bristol?

SRD wrote:Another thing, how do you know that Reg wasn't Margaret's natural father? If it's hearsay passed through generations then it may be that the original story was that George & Margaret Smith (or at least one of them) weren't Reg's natural father and that the story has got mangled in the re-telling. It's an expensive way to go and might involve contacting a lot of strangers but DNA testing might sort it out.
A couple of points, can you find George & Margaret on other Electoral rolls? If they're living apart maybe there was a matrimonial bust up over Reg's paternity that was resolved.
And another, might it be that there were two Reginald Wyndhams, one Jones one Sollars?

Thanks, SRD. I couldn’t find a Reginald Sollars anywhere. I will have a look at other electoral rolls for George and Margaret though.
I don’t think it was heresay, it was a revelation from Hilda to Margaret later on in her life - possibly when she left home (my uncle isn’t sure when Hilda told Margaret but he knew Reginald wasn’t his biological grandfather before Hilda died). My uncle told me this and he lived with his mum, Margaret and his nan, Hilda, and Reginald, after she and my uncle’s french father (Roger Jean Féat) divorced.
There is no birth record for Margaret Jones 31/12/1923 in Hull either…

Thanks, peterd - do you mean Margaret’s divorce to my french grandfather? What might it reveal, do you think?

Does anyone know where Margaret, (Reginald’s mum, born 1877)’s apparent birth place is - Macoy Crommer Moor? (It says this on 1911 census)

Something that could be significant is that on Reginald’s birth certificate, which I have, it says that George Jones’ occupation is General Labourer - which fits in with the 1901 census record you found, SRD. In 1901, he has the same occupation as he had in 1905. I’m more inclined to think that the above 1901 record is correct, rather than the one I found.

PascalePC wrote:Does anyone know where Margaret, (Reginald’s mum, born 1877)’s apparent birth place is - Macoy Crommer Moor? (It says this on 1911 census)

I can't find this place anywhere. I did find a Cardiff birth for a Margaret Smith:
MARGARET SMITH
Q1 1877
Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales
Volume 11A, Page 280

If the above 1901 census record is George, he would have to have met and started having kids with Margaret Smith very soon after this census was taken, as they apparently had 2 children die before William and Reginald were born. Then again - so maybe those deceased children were from previous marriage of Margaret?

I have confused myself trying to find George and Margaret’s marriage, as well as a previous one!!
