Posting on behalf of Frodo....

Nathan Taylor here on BCC

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... ver=393581

I have a number of books that belonged to Nathan Taylor - one of them is a 1712 edition of The Imitation of Christ and on one of the inside plain pages the names of the previous owners are written. I am trying to use the information to help with the family tree but can't read the writing. I think it reads November 8th (?) 1806 then (or Thom?) Dyod (died?) Mr William Taylor of Ormsbrsby (?) His Book 1806. Nathan Taylor his book December 26th 1846. Nathan was born in Stoke Prior so I assume the place must be local to there or somewhere in the Birmingham area as most of the family did not move far. Albert Manger Taylor mentions family connections in Redditch and Alcester and some family are in Oldbury but Ormsbrsby (?) is a mystery.

Can anyone help - the nearest I found using the internet was Ombersley in Worcestershire.

Apart from wow! How amazing ! :o
Looks like the book has been passed down? As in left in will or like?
I wonder if it says...

Nov 8th 1806 Then died Mr William Taylor of Ombersley
Thomas Taylor His book 1806

That's what I thought having found Ombersley as a place. I presume Nathan had a reputation in the family as a book lover as he wasn't the older male and when Joseph his father died in 1841 he left all his like to him in his will. He was certainly literate as he wrote a mini autobiography when he was edited ridden in later life. As Thomas's death isn't mentioned perhaps it was a gift - I have no idea whether Joseph had siblings but suspect he had.

Great to find the Place name - thanks. Just wonder does anyone recognise the William or Thomas mentioned as I can't see any obvious match on the Connections tree pages. I have looked again at Nathan's autobiography and at the time he received the book he was living and working away from home in service either at Little Dodford or at Howden/Horden (again can't read the writing) Cross in Staffordshire but visiting his mother from time to time if it helps.

Perhaps a query on William/Thomas on brick walls?
