Wondering if someone on here could update http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... #moreinfo_ with more members and info that I've come across?

Seeing that birth certificates and Census records were not around prior to 1837, could do with advice on how to research/find ancestors of Jabez Adams? They are a direct line on my Dad's side and I'm not having much luck. Just wondering how would we be able to trace our ancestors prior to 1837, if we didn't know where to look? :?

Hi Waltzer before Civil Registration you need to search Parish Records, which in the Adams case could be one of many Cradley or Cradley Heath, even Old Swinford, Halesowen and or Clent. A lot of these Records have been lost over time, Cradley also had 3 Methodist, a Baptist and a Presbyterian Chapel, can be very time consuming. I found a Christening at Cradley St Peters 14.9.1820 Thomas son of John and Nancy Adams Colley Lane Nailer. The Christening for Ann Matlida 1818 says daughter of John and Nancy Nailer of Cradley. Will see if there are anymore details. Linell.

Many thanks for your advice, Linell & Northern Lass. Are the Parish registers online or do I need to visit churches in the area? Or would I be better off going to the Ancestry centre near the Black Country Museum for the day?

Jabez & Nancy Adams' children names are all written down in the old original family bible and I have scanned them. Would that be proof enough? Will have ago at uploading them on here.

Wow what amazing things to have!
It would still need to be checked... But is a good thing to go from. Some things are family lore and not always true to fact.

Waltzer would think Jabez is also a son of John and Nancy. Brother to Thomas and Ann Matilda. Don't know for sure, but it looks like it.

Suggest maybe finding all the kids of John and nancy
and the marriage of JOhn and Nancy the wits may be sibs of JOhn or nancy.

The Dudley Archives has lots of the parish registers that is the one near the BCLMuseum.
