ARC TBC James Niblett

Postby SRD » Tue Apr 12, 2016 8:53 pm

I have a James Niblett, born in 1891 in Victoria, Australia, the son of James & Margaret Beaton.
I have his Military Service records both before and during WWI.
In 1919 he married Agnes Maud Moussel and his war record shows he applied for her to be granted free passage to Australia. However, in 1925 she appears, in her married name of Niblett, to have married Norman Kensett and then to have died in the March quarter of 1973 in Worthing.
Some online trees have Norman Kensett's spouse at that 1925 marriage as being Agnes May Niblett b. 1893 the daughter of Albert Samuel Niblett but I think that that Agnes died in the March quarter of 1967 in Bromsgrove.
James Niblett served in the Australian forces in Egypt during WWI and Norman Kensett also served there as part of the Egypt Suez Defences.
There is a death record of an Agnes Niblett in Australia in 1927 but the details mitigate against it being Agnes Maud Moussel.
I have been in contact with someone in Australia who knew James Niblett in the 1950s as a sad man, living alone in a shack (and, from the description, suffering from PTSD), and who wonders what happened to him in England.
Please can anyone find divorce papers regarding Agnes Moussel, application for a death certificate for James by Agnes, travel details to Australia, or any sighting of her that might show that she didn't just dump James and marry Norman bigamously.
Thanks

It looks like this should be in Brick Walls.

A couple of random comments from me

Agnes May Niblett seems to be working for the Ministry of Transport in 1935 so I agree that she is probably not the one who marries in 1925 (.pdf Gazette found by searching for her name; she is also listed in 1911 and her sister Ivy Julia is on some lists too; fits with the census occupations for the family; also found on Antwerp immigration list, along with father (foreign correspondent in 1911) and brother, but I could not work out what year that was).

What about the birth?

Births Sep 1935
K***T Norman W Niblett Worthing 2b 469 [I edited the name since he seems to be alive]

with perhaps

Marriages Mar 1968
K***T NORMAN W WILLIAMS WORTHING 5H 1601

or 1939 register?
Agnes M Kensett 1895 Southwick U.D. Sussex

Norman Kensett 1894 Southwick U.D. Sussex

Norman Junior appears to be still listed living in Worthing

That's interesting, your 1939 record shows Norman as being born in 1894 but I have:
Births Mar 1897 (>99%)
Kensett Norman Horsham 2b 317

and
LDS
Baptism Place: Horsham Circuit, Sussex and Surrey, England
Birth Date: 10 Nov 1896
Baptism Date: 21 Mar 1897
Name: Norman
Parents: Frederick & Annie Elizabeth
Surname: Kensett
FHL Film Number: 1278932
Reference ID: 1830

and
England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007
Deaths registered in April May June 1982
Name: KENSETT, Norman
D.o.B: 10 No 1896
District: Worthing
Vol: 18
Page: 2267

I can't find another Norman Kensett born in England between 1893 - 1898.

Perhaps it is just a mis-transcription? I did not see the image.

It says on the 1939 register Norman Kensett - Born 10 November 1896 with a stroke through the 6 and a 4 entered.

I wonder if the extra couple of years would have taken him beyond some age limit?

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?

I haven't got any further with it so it's still a brickwall but if it's cluttering up the place you can archive it.
