Hi,
In the will of Edward Stevens there is mention of passing a copyhold property onto his son John.
This is the family
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... ver=362013How do I discover who/how this copyhold property came to Edward Stevens and where/when did this first begin.

You would have to search for any information which the Archives may hold. Oops just seen you are in NZ. Your only option is to contact Dudley Archives and ask for a Search. They do charge by the hour, unless you can find a Researcher who has the time to search for you.

Presumably the copyhold was from the Earl of Dudley - these manorial records are in the archives at Dudley. They are quite easy to search as there is an index, prior to 1729 (I think) the records are in Latin

Thanks for your responses.
I was wondering if it was a fair guess that the copyhold was probably from the Earl of Dudley.
Also I am correct in guessing again that if the researcher finds the information and its in Latin, that they translate?
Been researching copyhold and that's an interesting topic and history.

I now have my cousin who lives near London making some time to go to Dudley Archives and track the copy hold for Edward and hopefully earlier generations. Hopefully he will be able to find someone who can help with Latin.
So far I can go back 2 more generations from Edward but hard to confirm much more. Every little bit helps. A
