yes but with the Dob you could get a birth cert and it would give you a maiden name for mary but would give you a occupation for richard might be worth sending for to rule in or out ?

However there is always the question, who did Thomas marry before he married Jane LANCASTER. I mean, a widower at 22 thats a first for me.

It wouldn't be that unusual to be a widower young -- remember child birth was a dangerous time for the mother as well as the baby -- if a baby was born alive and mother and baby died close together there could be two deaths reported in the same area with the same surname close together -- you might strike lucky!

Right, well on the marriage certificate that I already have - Thomas is 22 - so that means he is born 1833 but obviously there is always slight variation. As for birth certificate I thought you could only get those for post 1837. Up to that point it was parish registers? Unless I am wrong?

You can only get certificates after 1837.
You could try and find some of the siblings marriages see if he shows as witness? A long shot though and a few hours in the records office!

I found this on the Huminex index - dont know if your familiar with it but its aim is to provide stuff for free through the help of volunteers. It can be found here - http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/index.html

Anyway it occurred to me that possibly Thomas was the son of someone who was not married. So I searched on the illegitimate orders register and found these instances.

1822 - Richard COX - occ: Blacksmith Stratford Boro and woman Mary Weeson - notified Epiphany 635

and

1823 - Richard COX - occ: Blacksmith Straford upon Avon and woman Mary Weeson - notified Michaelmas 548

Now this means that the order was issued against Richard for getting Mary Pregnant on two occasions. Its the only Richard I can find who works with metal and is involved with a Mary. However I cannot find if they ever married. Can anyone else?

1837 yeh your right wasnt thinking but a copy of the PR might help you can send for them from the Archives
