I sent him this link id found, http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/us ... 4tree.html - Press F and search for John Gowler (b 1788) - This is where the debate comes in:
What I can’t understand is why everyone claims Robert, who appears in the 1841census and then link him to John Gowler circa 1788, born and christened in Chatteris. This John would have been 52 to 53 years old in 1841 and been married just over 25 years.
Between 1837 and 1850 only 4 John Gowlers died in the whole Country the only one in N. Witchford died the 2nd Qtr. Of 1850 and would match the John Gowler that appears in the census of 1841.
This John Gowler who is 49 years, appears with an Ann Gowler aged 48 years, neither of whom were born in Cambrigeshire:
GOWLER, John 1792 49 M North Witchford 1841
GOWLER, Ann 1793 48 F North Witchford 1841
So where is this John born circa 1788?
What we do know is that:
Robert Gowler Married Elizabeth Lamb in Chatteris on 31st. March 1841, 6 days before the Census was taken, he is described as a Minor, therefore he had not reached 21 years, both are described as being from the parish and his father is named as John, but there is no mention that he is dead.
Elizabeth’s parent is named as Ann described as being re-married therefore Ann’s father is dead.
Would it not make more sense, that the John Gowler who is 49 years and Ann Gowler aged 48 years, who are not from Cambrigeshire are most likely to be the parents’ of Robert?
Can anyone help to sort this out?
