UK Merchant Navy Seamen Records COMPLETED

Postby ariverand » Mon Apr 23, 2018 6:45 pm

Greetings from France,
Excuse my poor English...

I hope I post in the appropriate thread. If not, please displace it à the right place. I sincerely apologise if I make any mistake or misconduct.

I am looking for information about members of my family who lived in Jersey (Channel Islands) during the 19th Century. They bear the name TIREL, which is common both in Jersey and in Normandy. They probably did emigrate during the French Revolution.

One of them was Hervé TIREL. This 1st name “Hervé” is of French style.

He is mentioned on the St-Helier 1841 Census. He is noted as Harvey TIREL, born around 1815, “sea man”.

it seems that he is also mentioned in the United Kingdom, Merchant Navy Seamen Records, 1835-1941 as born in Jersey in 1814.

Could anyone help me by a look up at the « UK Merchant Navy Seamen Records » ?

It seems that Hervey is filed under 2 first names (Hervey & Harvey) :

Harvey TIREL from Jersey file number : 004620367
Hervey TIREL from Jersey file number : 004620618

I would be very pleased to get the informations of the registers (I positively don't know what do these records look like nor if they are available at the present day...) or to get an image of the records, of course, if it is possible.

Best regards

Antoine

Good evening Grangers14 (Jo)

And thank you very much, it does help :P
I am surprised because, as I have not seen Hervey any more in the Jersey census, I thought that he died at sea. He probably settled somewhere in the British Empire...
There is also a rumor in our family that "someone" "someday" settled in Labrador (Canada). I am not able to explore this information for the moment.
Nevertheless I know more about my "distant cousins" step by step. It seems that Genealogy in the UK is quite different from genealogy in France :-)
Many thanks !

Best regards,
Antoine
