I need some advice ....

Postby becca_s » Tue May 26, 2009 8:39 am

I am trying to search for the ancestry of Alice Maude Gregory born around 1889/1890.

There have been a few people in my family who have tried to search for her birth certificate or christening etc, but it seems like none existed. She was my great grandmother - and there were rumours among her children/my grandfather and aunties that she was adopted. What should I do next? This really is a brick wall for me.

The only information that I have about her from offical documents is her marriage certificate - She married William Shaw in Jan, 1911 in Bedwelty, Monmouth, Wales. Her father is listed as Robert Gregory. I know from family history that she grew up in Cardiff.

So if anyone can give me some advice about what to do next if she was adopted or taken in by the family I would really appreciate because lots of people from family have given it a go but have reached a stumbling block when it comes to going back any further than Alice Gregory.

Thanks for reading, Rebecca
