COMPLETED Flint family offspring in the US

Postby SRD » Thu Jan 08, 2015 11:34 am

I have children of Frank & Sarah Flint who appear to have emigrated to Philadelphia, Pa. USA.

Firstly Elizabeth Ann, b. 1864 Horsham, Sussex who married George Mitchell, b 1861 Tunbridge, Kent in September quarter 1882 who were living with a son Thomas George, b.1884 Henfield, Sussex in Croydon in 1901.

Secondly George, b 1876 Patcham, Sussex who married Florence Louise Shepheard, b. 1879 Islington, Middlesex in 1899 in Wandsworth, Surrey. They, along with their children Frank Hector, b.1900 Wandsworth, Surrey and Doris Louise b 1902 Croydon, Surrey, are on board the SS "Philadelphia" travelling from Southampton to New York in September 1903. That record says they are joining George's sister, a Mrs A Mitchell of Roberts Ave, Michigan Ave, Philadelphia, Pa. who is probably the Elizabeth Ann mentioned above.

But I can find no further information on any of them except a possible passenger list record for a George Mitchell travelling from Liverpool to Philadelphia in March 1911.

Can anyone track down any passenger records, US census/voter records/BDMs etc.

Thanks

Thelma is down as step-daughter here. Her age is said to be 26. 'Tis all rather confusing! In 1935 they were residing in Baltimore.

Thanks gardener, I did have the 1901 but it was the American info I couldn't find so that might well be Ann Elizabeth's family, although the 'German parentage' is odd. I just wish I could find the passenger records.

It seems America didn't suit George as I think I've found him in Australia.

It looked to me as though Louisa/Eloise was a 2nd wife, born in America of German parents. So there should be a marriage somewhere. The 1930 census says married aged 16 so it should have been 1910ish.

I just looked at that 1911 immigration entry again... last time I forgot to "turn the page"!
I expect you have the details but I will post them in case anyone else wants to search.

I think that is George Mitchell for sure:

Sailing March 15th 1911, arrived 28th March

Age 49 married

Brickmaker

Last Address Halifax

Nearest relative sister Mrs Arndale, 31 Audley Street, Halifax

Previous visit(s) to USA 1902/190?7 (not sure of last figure, could be a 3 but 7 looks more likely), in Philadelphia

Going home to join wife and son, St Helens Av, Baltimore Md

Place of birth Tunbridge Wells

Thanks again. I hadn't found the immigration info on George, where did you get it?

I did, eventually, find the Australian passenger info on George & his family, George seems to have travelled separately from Florence according to their age record.
