COMPLETED - Road name, Plumstead Common

Postby gandalf458x » Sat Nov 30, 2013 3:43 pm

Does anyone have a talent for deciphering writing? I've been trying to make out the road name on the attached for ages.

It at first looked like Tillner but looking at the a and e in Plumstead it looks more like Tillae. Then again is the initial letter T? It could be J...

Thanks G :)

Ever wondered whose idea it was to put "Warning: a certificate is not evidence of identity" on a DEATH certificate?!

I've found reference (on a very poorly OCR transcribed page) to a Tillae Road in the Blackheath Gazette in 1894. http://www.newspapers.com/newspage/34370024/ if that helps.

Many thanks SRD. I will sign up for a trial. Didn't find the name at all on Google which seems unusual.

The only Road that I can find (using the street index for 1891 census) is Villas Road. RG 12/537
I know that you are not looking for quite that early, but it is the double ll at least. Otherwise, I wondered if it could be Kilne Road, but I can't see that anywhere.
There is another road, crossed out, on the left of the image. What does that say?

Thanks guys. A brilliant piece of detective work. It's an odd name. It still looks as though the writing says Tillae although it's Tiliae.

Many thanks G :)
