David WILLIAMS - Blackburn Northern - COMPLETED

Postby Jill_O_E » Wed Jul 31, 2013 1:01 pm

Looking for information regarding David WILLIAMS who was born in 1890 in Blackburn Northern and registered at Blackburn. Family history refers to him dying from wounds in 1919 received in WW1. I am unsure how to research a death like this - and how to figure out if he came back to Blackburn following the war or died while in France. I have searched the Blackburn BMD and his death does not register there.

Am new to the forum and appreciate any input on how to proceed with this search.

Thanks!

Yes, that's all of them - Olive WILLIAMS was my paternal Grandmother. And yes, they lived on Dukes Brow.

I have found that the last one Joseph Thompson WILLIAMS 4 died in 1919 - not sure of what, my guess is the Spanish Flu. John WILLIAMS the father also died in 1919.

I had been told that David had died in 1919 but am not at all sure how accurate this is. Annie WILLIAMS the mother must have died before the youngest was born because he seems to have a different mother with maiden name of LANCASTER.

I also thought there was a "Lena" but she doesn't show up anywhere.

I would very much like to find where David is buried as well as Joseph Thompson and John are buried.

Thank you for confirming - I was not sure if Annie was the mother's name or not. The maiden name for the mother of the other children was STOCKS.
Cheers... Jill

I'm just reading through this again - I was unaware that there was an oldest son John WILLIAMS - so yes, Joseph 4 Grandson must be the son of John. I just thought he was from another mother and that Annie had died.

I'm just blown away by this - and I have never known the occupations of them all, other than my Grandmother as a weaver. To the best of my knowledge, my Grandmother Olive was the only one that came to Canada after she married Arthur COOPER in 1916 (double wedding with her older sister Maude who married a Frank Satterthwaite) in Blackburn.

Thank you so much for this information. In one day on this forum I've already learned new information and had misinformation cleared up.

It could be - is Annie a short form for Hannah?

Excuse my ignorance - but what is Chorlton - a name... a place?

I'm also going to have to read up in this forum on how to respond using quotes etc as you have done - in less than 24 hours registering with this forum I wasn't expecting to get this kind of feed back !

I have to be careful not to go off in a bunch of tangents though LOL and stick to my Grandmother's family and try and get some clue as to where David was buried and if he did in fact die shortly after the war.

Thanks so much for all your help

Yes Jill, Annie could well have been short for Hannah...

Chorlton - http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/20078

Perhaps someone else on here could help with information regarding David?

Holy !

1901: 59 Whitehead Street
John Williams 47 Machine Strap Maker for Cotton Mill
Annie Williams 46
Elizabeth Williams 23 Single Cotton Weaver
Annie Williams 22 Single Gen Dom Servant

John Williams 18 Single Apprentice Marble Mason
Selena Williams 16 Cotton Weaver
Maud Williams 14 ? Cotton Weaver
David Williams 11
Olive Williams 7

I had listed a "Lena" - but did not know of the name "Selena". I have no recollection of ever hearing of "Elizabeth" or the young "Annie"

These girls must have married and moved off somewhere. Even these addresses are new to me - I only ever knew of Duke's Brow.

Have found the Blackburn Honour Roll that was compiled and published in 1929 - no dates of deaths and David WILLIAMS is not on it - but the sketchy family history that I have says he died after the war from wounds... so not sure he would even be on the honour roll. Am also trying the Commonwealth Graves Commission (can you say needle in a haystack?) But I've only just begun to look for him and where the rest of them might be buried.

Thanks for any help or ideas.
