Church records

Postby fweb1967 » Fri Dec 21, 2012 8:33 am

I have an image of a marriage transcript from 1768 of my ancestors, it reads thus- John McCallum and Margaret Morisson were ingalantly (ungalantly?) married, does anyone know the exact meaning of this, I'm guessing it's not good! The other marriage entries on the page list occupation and dwelling and theirs stands out very starkly, intended no doubt.

There were far too few bishops and some were ingalantly concentrated.

came across this maybe it means not legally married by the church ?
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

I have seen it before. "Ungallantly" is commenting on the conduct of either the wedding party or the church official conducting the wedding.

They were rude and/or boisterous and/or inattentive.
