ARC TBC...................Searching ancestry website

Postby usignuolo » Tue Jan 03, 2012 12:40 pm

I have ancestors who migrated from Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, to Holland, in the late 18th/early 19th century. One line was called Leonard (surname). I have found them in Holland however trying to trace them in Yorkshire on ancestry uk is proving very frustrating. Even when I enter Leonard in the surname field and Hull Yorkshire (search on exact name) in the search fields, it still brings up a load of unrelated people with Leonard as their Christian name, not living in Hull at all. Is there any way I can narrow down the search or is ancestry just very bad at searching on surnames which can double as christian names - even if you enter it in the surname field?
