*ARC TBC* Robert Wilson 1891

Postby rogerneilson » Mon Oct 24, 2011 9:55 pm

Whilst the rest of his family seem to have been firmly located in a small area of the world in and around Newcastle upon Tyne - where I live- this one escaped the area and by what i have discovered so far had a fairly interesting life. One aspect of this is he turns up as a Lodging House Keeper 150, Cambridge Street, St George Hanover Square, London. He is there for over ten years and raises the beginnings of a family. I'd appreciate any info from people down in London as to what the 'grand sounding' address might have actually been like?

Oh I have seen him I think in 1881 as a retired butler domestic missionary servant companion something london! What a title of a job !
With his sister Barbara?

1871 with Lord Ravensworth! He certainly did well.

His children both have long names, not seen a marriage yet

Robert is a bit of an offshoot from my main line, but he's a really interesting character compared to many. I have the BMD for his marriage, have him as far back as 1851 Census, with a probable birth date of 1848, I'm in Newcastle so the Northumbrian records should be easily accessible when I get some time to go to their archives. Have also found his probable wife though not pursued her yet. Yes a retired butler with his sister as housekeeper, employed in that amazing job title then - I suspect - doing quite well in his B&B.......

Happy to compare notes if its worth it to you. My Great Grandfather John Wilson 1839-1889 was Robert's brother.

Levette - an unusual second name - is the maiden name of his wife Elizabeth - the spelling does vary a bit in the searches I have done.
