ARC TBC......soldier who doesn't seem to be listed at CWGC?

Postby colleenpamela » Tue May 24, 2011 5:36 pm

Searching Ancestry.com today at the library, I came across one of my ancestors, Bloomfield T Warman, listed as having died in The Great War-

Name: Bloomfield Thomas Warman
Birth Place: Kentish Town, London, N.W.
Death Date: 13 Mar 1918
Death Location: France & Flanders
Enlistment Location: Woolwich, Kent
Rank: Gunner
Regiment: Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery
Number: 174306
Type of Casualty: Died of wounds
Theatre of War: Western European Theatre
Comments: Formerly Se/89, R.A.V.C

My first port of call was to search CWGC but absolutely no joy, not even any B.Warmans on there? I've got him in the census up to 1901, and now I'm very confused! Any light anyone can shed on other places to look would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

I was checking for aliases and came across the same bloke.

Description
Medal card of Clarke, James
Corps Regiment No Rank
Army Veterinary Corps SE/89 Private
Royal Field Artillery 174306 Private
Date 1914-1920
Catalogue reference WO 372/4links to the Catalogue
Dept Records created or inherited by the War Office, Armed Forces, Judge Advocate General, and related bodies
Series War Office: Service Medal and Award Rolls Index, First World War
Piece Campbell H - Cooke W E
Image contains 1 medal card of many for this collection

Bloomfield Thomas Warman does not appear in the armed forces BMD as a casualty.

I can find no Medal Card for a Warman with that regimental number.

I have tried variations of hte spelling of hte surname and got nowhere.

I would say he used a different name because:

a) he was rejected when he applied under his real name.

b) he was underage (according to the medal card, he arrived very early in the war).

c) he did not want his family to know.

Oh, wow, I can't thank you all enough, I had never thought he would be serving under a different name, though i did think he could be underage.

Thank you so much!!

I recently saw the discussion arising from your query about Bloomfield Thomas Warman....he was my husband Mike's great grandfather.I am researching the family history and have used the UK census to trace this Warman line back to 1820, if that is of any interest - you may have done that already.

We would be interested to know about your family connection with Bloomfield.
