Philip Sidney Haines b 1838 – when he joined the Royal Navy 12th Sept 1864 it details him as 5’ 4â€Â, having a fair complexion with brown hair and blue eyes. He first served on HMS Diadem 28 Sept 1857 to 15 Apr 1862, HMS Edgar 16 Apr 1862 to 10 Dec 1863, HMS Duke of Wellington 3 Jan 1864 to 22 Jan 1864, HMS Hector from 23 Jan 1864 to 22 Feb 1864, - unreadable- 23 Feb 1864 to 28 Aug 1864. On 12 Sept 1864 he volunteered for 10 years as a seaman of store rooms when he served on HMS Victoria to 7 Aug 1867, HMS Blanche 8 Aug 1867 to 21 Dec 1871, (He was married on the 20/12/1871, presumably during his between postings leave), HMS Duke of Wellington 22 Dec 1871 to 3 Dec 1872 and as a ropemaker on HMS Asia 4 Dec 1872 to 31 Dec 1872. He was engaged as a boatman for Hector with the coastguard on 1 Oct 1874 to complete his time for pension. His papers were sent to Whitehall for pension 8 Feb 1882.
