West Bromwich ARP

Postby snoopysue » Thu Aug 05, 2010 11:36 am

I'm looking for info on the ARP in West Bromwich. My Grandfather Frank Arthur Fellows was a member from 1940 does anyone know where to find out more info?
He was also in the Home Guard, possibly in Darlaston - I have a certificate (1842) saying that he was qualified as the leader of a Bomb Disposal Unit for GKN in Darlaston where he was chief metallurgist. I presume this happened after the bombing in Darlaston where the Atlas Works was nearly hit.
Does anybody know how unusual it was to be in both the ARP and Home Guard? Would he have had to give up the Home Guard?

While googling for info I came across this:

You could be in both.

Home Guard did not train all that often and I am sure they would not have trained during the blackout periods when the ARP did most of their work.
