I am trying to find info on Charles Stokes in the British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920.
All I have he was born in Staffordshire in about 1880. As anyone got access to these records on Ancestry.

Hi Jimmy,

I've searched the military records for you but I'm afraid we'll need more information on Charles because I've found quite a few records for Charles Stokes.

Any idea where in Staffordshire he was born or living or which Regiment he was in?

I'm afraid without further information it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Regards

Hi Adrian.

I could be wasting every ones time on this one, this is what I have on him,

1916. he was a Walter Randolph Stokes at sons christening.
1918. he was Charles Randolph at twins christening.
1921.he was Walter Stokes when he finally married.
1941 he was Charles Randolph age 61 when he died.
1947 he was referred to as Charles Walter at sons wedding.
1947 he was referred to as Walter Randolph.

His children all had the name Randolph as a middle name.

He married in Kidderminster, children all born Kidder, and he died in Kidder.
His grandson remembers being told that he came from a Chain making family in Oldhill.

Hi Jimmy,

No worries it's worth looking and that gives me a little to go on.

I'll be in touch but to be honest we'll have to drop lucky to find him but I'll try my best.

Kind regards

Hi Jimmy,

I've searched and searched for you but to no avail on the pension records.

The service records for the surnames A-N have are only currently online and we're still waiting for the rest to be transcribed online (due very soon). The Medal Index cards are available but they only give military details eg medal entitlement, rank, regiment and regiment number etc. Sadly very little or no personnal details are recorded on the MIC and there are lots and lots of names that could match your relative.

The other problem is that 60% of all World War One records were destroyed by fire during the Blitz so it's possible your relatives records were among those destroyed.

Sorry I haven't better news.
