Hi Carol,

Just a bit of information regarding the Machine Gun Coy John sadly died serving in:

99th Coy. Machine Gun Corps
Joined 2nd Division, 28 April 1916

2nd Division
1916
The Battle of Delville Wood*
The Battle of the Ancre*
The battles marked * are phases of the Battles of the Somme 1916
Operations on the Ancre

John was killed between 14th/16th November 1916 (according to his service papers) so this was during the Battle of Ancre (see links below):

Hi Adrian/Mally
Just had an after thought, As you have found so much on Pvt Boon, I wondered if either of you could find any more detail for me on my own Grandad? I will start a separate thread for him Charles Henry Chamberlain. Thank you- hopefully

Hi

John Charles (Charlie) Boon was my husbands great uncle, Marjorie, (Grandma) was his only sibling.

There is a great deal documented about Charlie via the Henry Williamson Society. HW was an author of great repute and he used Charlie in many of his books, in particular he was the character Percy Pickering. You might find this interesting http://www.henrywilliamson.co.uk/images ... 94-100.pdf.

Charlie was a young man who went to Bedford Modern School and lived in Aspley Guise with his one sister Marjorie, (Polly Pickering in HW's books).

He lost in life in the Somme sometime around 16th November but no one can be exactly sure of the date.

Marjorie married a man names Turney and there are several children still living who would be able to give you lots more information than I. Good luck.
