Hi,
This is proving tricky to work because it seems we have two sets of Thomas and John's born abot the same time in the same area but let's look at what we know from nessa:
nessa wrote:That is them John and Isabella are my great grandparents Annie 8 months is my grandmother
Nessa
1911 census
67 Delph, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire
John Ashmore
Age 45
Isabbelle Ashmore
Age 46
William Ashmore
Age 21
Albert Ashmore
Age 18
Ellen Ashmore
Age 15
Phoebe Ashmore
Age 14
Annie Ashmore
Age 10
We can confirm the above family is nessa's ancestors but no Thomas or John ?
I think gardener is right that the Thomas and John you have as your ancestors living with Edwin Ashmore are in fact not yours because your relatives John & Isabella never had a son called Edwin. I'm not sure about the cousin Edwin you mention but on the 1911 census Edwin lists Thomas and John as his brothers/lodgers.

Thomas is down as a boiler yard labourer.

John found by gardener serving with South Staffordshire Regiment on the 1911 census and Thomas in the Worcestershire Regiment I found on the 1911 census are your relatives and sons of John and Isabella.
I've found this on the 1911 census :
No 8 Bradley Street, Pensnett Nr Dudley
Edwin Thomas Ashmore
45
Mary Ashmore
46
Ammey Ashmore
17
Mary Ann Bate
86
This is the family of Edwin who is married on the 1911 census and living with him are his brothers John and Thomas, it states on the census brothers and crossed out lodgers but was most likely Edwin was unsure what they should be classed on the form. I think this helps confirm that you have the wrong relatives listed on the 1911 census and in fact both your Thomas and John had already enlisted in the army.
What do you think ?
