Noel Theodore Stanislaus King

I was wondering how I could find out anything about my relative Noel Theodore Stanislaus King.

According to family folklore he was on the receiving end of a poison gas attack during WW1 which still badly affected his voice and breathing when I met him in the early 1970s. He also did bomb disposal in WW2 and was badly injured. At some point he was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Apparently he was rather secretive about what he did in the wars and would never let anyone read the citation for the medal.

Unfortunately this is all I know about him and have no idea about what regiments etc. he was in.

I've just dug out the family tree which shows Noel's father as Richard who had a second wife Frances and another son Terence. So it must be him! Well spotted!

Having seen his age in 1911 I'm beginning to wonder whether there was some rumour about him getting into WW1 underage. I'll have to check with my mother. Also I'm surprised to see that he was born in Bengal!

Thanks to everyone for the information. There are a few more people come to light to add onto the family tree!

My mother confirmed that Noel was reputed to have joined up at the age of 16 which would have been early on in the war - it would be interesting to see the relevant paperwork where he lied about his age. Another bit of family folklore is that after the doctors had finished putting him back together after having been blown up during bomb disposal he was one and a half inches shorter than before! Hopefully there are some records somewhere that can confirm all this.
