Hi,

Researching people who served during WW2 is a complete nightmare because of the information act (something like that) which protects peoples information for so many years. This means to obtain the service records of ex servicemen you will need to meet a strict application criteria and if you don't then forget even attempting to apply.

check out this site for further details:
http://www.veterans-uk.info

If you click on links and then service records (explains in detail including cost if applicable)

I've no idea where the Canadian service records are kept but maybe someone else could offer help.

Good luck

Here is the equivalent for Canada.

Stupid restrictions! You can access any Aussie service records in full and online. IF somebody has looked at the record before you then its free, otherwise it about $17 to get it digitized.

Why they restrict these records yet alllow you to find up to date birth and marriage records in the UK is beyond me.
