Private 4986664 - Alexander Macpherson

Postby Shaunmac85 » Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:49 am

I am in the process of researching my family tree and am looking for more information about my grandfather. From the details I have found so far he was Private No: 4986664 for the Sherwood Forresters and was captured in North Africa during WW2. He ended up in Stalag 357 (Oerbke, Lower Saxony) POW No: 32572. If anyone has come across him or has anymore information it would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

I recommend you obtain a copy of the questionnaires completed by ex POW at the end of the war which gives very interesting facts and information on their life as POWs during the war and these questionnaires are held at the National Archives. I'm afraid they are not available to view online so you'll have to pay to obtain a copy or if you're able to visit then you can get it free.

Hi Adrian

Thanks for the reply, I have read about them recently and live in North London so think I will pop down to the National Archives sometime soon to see what I can find.
