1956 and 1960 DIRECTORIES FOR READING & CAVERSHAM and greater neighbourhood in BERKSHIRE
ALSO 1939 DIRECTORY of BERKSHIRE.

I hold Kelly's Directories for Reading & Caversham & wider neighbourhood for the years 1956 and 1960. This includes such places as Tilehurst, Emmer Green, Woodley, Earley etc etc. N.B. The information in these excellent and very comprehensive references is usually gathered in the previous year.

I also hold a 1939 copy of Kellys Directory for Berkshire, which is not a very good volume as it appears to be class selective ( mostly professional people ) and I was amused to see that top of the list of residents in Berkshire is listed King George at Windsor Castle.

If I can help anyone I will and I have already used these directories to track down the family of a lady who had never met her father or siblings and they had a very successful first meeting.

SHROPSHIRE- Parish Registers

sp1 wrote:Shropshire Parish Registers.

The registers printed by the Shropshire Parish Register Society are available here:
http://www.melocki.org.uk/MelockiSalop.html
These are in a very useful format as they can be searched using the 'find' feature of your browser.

If you want them in pdf, text, or mobile device formats they are also available on:
http://archive.org/
- just type Shropshire Parish Registers in the search box.
arhive.org also has some registers for other counties - eg if you type Staffordshire Parish Registers in the search box it comes up with West Bromwich, amongst others.
also has the following parish registers:

Staffordshire
Penn
West Bromwich
Rowley Regis

It also has some other interesting items such as:
Visitation of Staffordshire
Visitation of Shropshire
Attwood family (history of)

I always wondered why there was no batch number shown for marriages in Clent, only baptisms. This week I stumbled across M035173 which lists marriages over about a 100 year period in Clent. A great find but I just wonder how many more have been missed ?

Scotland

I can look up anything on scotlandspeople.gov.uk , even modern records that you can't view online. I go about once a month with a long list! Happy to add a few more.

Canada

I'd like to help out any of you who have family members who emigrated to Canada and know where they might be buried etc. I live in Central-Ontario about an hour north of Toronto - also am not too far from Kitchener and Stratford. I also have friends in a number of provinces who might be able to lend a hand as well.
