Unknown male (see gallery)

Postby Frodo » Wed Feb 25, 2015 2:53 pm

Has anybody heard of a gentleman named Albert Hack who along with is wife had a photo taken at Aston Manor most probably in the late 19th century - he appears in an album belonging to Nathan Taylor and I think the photos were taken before the birth of Joseph Nathan Taylor in 1896. I think he may be the gentleman posted as an unknown male in the gallery in 2009.

Can you tell his age (or his wife's) from the photograph?

There is one photo of Albert Hack with his wife and another with his child - at a guess early to mid thirties - looks same age as photo in the gallery. The photographers are Websters of Aston Manor. My great grandfather/great grandmothers families lived in the Rowley Regis are and he was born in Stoke Prior. As my grandfather had a number of different vocations in and around the area it would be quite possible for Charles not to come from Rowley.

I have added one photo of Albert Hack with his wife and another with his child but for now I have added him under Unknown male so that we can view them side by side.
Frodo thinks he may be the gentleman we already have posted as an unknown male in 2009

see here - gallery/album.php?album_id=85

What do we think?

It looks like the same man. He looks younger in the picture with his wife.

I found the photographer in the census:

1901
3 Lozells Road, Aston Manor
Annie Webster 34 Photographer Birmingham
Gertrude Harrison 21

1891
13 Lozells Road
Annie J Webster 25 Photographer Birmingham
Robert Charles 54

I think the man is likely to be the person I posted above.
I think this is wife no 1
Deaths Mar 1893
Hack Annie 29 King's N. 6c 255

coinciding with the birth of

Births Mar 1893
Hack Albert Percy King's N. 6c 41

I'm not good enough at Victorian fashion to say which wife it would be.
Feckenham (Albert's birthplace) is not far from Stoke Prior, and that is where his mother was born it seems.

1871
George Hack 50
Elizabeth Hack 40 born Stoke Prior
Harrey Hack 19
Arthur Hack 13
Betsey Hack 12
Thomas Hack 6
Nathan Hack 4
Albert Hack 2

I don't know if this is the wedding for the parents, getting a bit guess-ey now.
